Yes, Lithuania is that good!

The Baltic States are like a closed book to many people living in the UK. They may be confused with the Balkans and they may be thought of as having nothing to offer apart from block upon block of Soviet-style housing and grim eastern European architecture in the centre of the cities - in other words, nothing to see and nothing to do.

No one can deny the chequered past of the countries. But, although collectively described as the Baltic States, each country is different and distinct from the other. They have the Baltic shoreline in common but do not share the same language - although Latvian and Lithuanian are close, Estonian comes from a completely different family of languages.

What they do share, however, is not only an acknowledgement of the past but a sense of optimism about the future. The increasing use of English gives us all a chance to share in this future. The Baltic States will probably never be the destination of choice for the majority of UK tourists, but this is not necessarily a bad thing and will help the countries preserve their individuality and their identity.

To help us promote the Baltic States we will make use of Baltic specialists who are able to offer a range of services in any of the 3 states. More information about holidays in the Baltic States will appear on these pages soon. Only the imagination limits the possibilities.

Our Baltic Focus begins with the largest (in area) of the countries - Lithuania. The images on this page show scenes from around the country.
